Business Students at the University of Portsmouth and Madfrog – The South Coasts Leading Digital Out of Home Advertising Agency With Prestigious Locations Including Wightlink Ferries and Portsmouth Guildhall – combine strengths to setup and launch a new digital event.
Hampshire, April 21st 2021 – Business Students James, Rachel, and Davis during their 3rd year of studies at the University of Portsmouth formed team ‘Think Big’ as part of a competitive university assignment in November 2020 which involved working with local companies to help develop their business.
Working directly with the Directors at Madfrog, the Students proposed a new local digital event named ‘Madmas’ (a play on words combining ‘Madfrog’ and ‘Christmas’) in which Instagram photos would appear on the Madfrog Advertising Network of over 120+ digital screens across the south coast to spread festive cheer during the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the business goal of increasing screen viewership and engagement.
Madmas 2020 (@MadmasLive on Instagram) launched on December 6th 2020 after just two weeks of planning and preparation. Madmas 2020 was sponsored by Robin Hill and The Garlic Farm who provided fun and delicious prizes for the photo competition.
Using the hashtag #Madmas2020 the event received almost one hundred entries before it ended in January 2021. Despite all the challenges, including the late December lockdown, Madmas was a success, seeing a healthy number of entries and an increase of 142% in viewership and engagement.
The new format combining social media and digital out of home advertising will continue to be developed and is available now for any business or event to increase their local awareness and engagement, both online and offline simultaneously across the Madfrog Advertising Network.
As a result of the Business Students’ hard work and success of Madmas, team ‘Think Big’ achieved a close second place out of forty other teams, narrowly missing out on the top spot, walking away with £250 in prize money from the University of Portsmouth.
The University of Portsmouth’s Business Consultancy is run annually with the aim of providing 3rd year Business Students with valuable real-world experience, whilst giving local businesses additional resources and the expertise of upcoming talent.
This is the first year Madfrog have participated in the Business Consultancy project, however, the company directors have been very impressed throughout. Madfrog would like to thank and congratulate James, Rachel, and Davis who make up team ‘Think Big’ from the University of Portsmouth and encourage other local businesses to get involved.
Madmas will return in 2021.
